Description :

Terrific, modern style, with a dusting of cocoa powder coating the smoke, coffee, currant, blackberry, raspberry and sanguine flavors. Oozes power, but shows terrific focus and balance as the flavors smolder on the mineral-driven finish. Best from 2005

Domaine Gerin Côte Rotie La Landonne

  Robert Parker’s Review :

"The president of the syndicate of Cote Rotie growers, the young, dynamic, and talented Jean-Michel Gerin continues to build a strong following for his progressive, modern-styled, barrique-aged Cote Roties. He calls 2001 a “very good vintage ... assuming vignerons did severe crop-thinning.” He believes the wines will be approachable early, much like 1997.

Gerin is undoubtedly one of Cote Rotie’s finest winemakers, having produced a succession of very good vintages. In 1996, he added a fourth Cote Rotie - La Landonne - to his portfolio. All the wines reviewed in this segment were extremely unevolved, but very promising when I tasted them in July.

One of the most innovative and progressive producers in Cote Rotie, Jean-Michel Gerin, has also branched out with a project in Priorat, Spain, turning out some very fine wines called Trio Infernal. His 2004s (of course, a fabulous vintage in Spain) are certainly outstanding wines, made from Grenache and very old-vine Carignan."

Notes de dégustation

Robert Parker : 89-92 points
"Made from 100% Syrah, the 2001 Cote Rotie La Landonne exhibits a saturated blue/purple color in addition to pure notes of liquified minerals intermixed with creosote, blackberries, and blueberries. Dense, ripe, peppery, and rich, this is an impressive effort for the vintage, but patience is warranted. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2018." (2003)

Wine Spectator : 94 points
"Terrific, modern style, with a dusting of cocoa powder coating the smoke, coffee, currant, blackberry, raspberry and sanguine flavors. Oozes power, but shows terrific focus and balance as the flavors smolder on the mineral-driven finish. Best from 2005." (2004)
