Description :
The 2014 Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains suffered the most millerandage and consequently the yield was just 20 hectoliters per hectare. It has a beguiling bouquet with raspberry, wild strawberry and hints of vanilla emanating from the well-integrated oak.

Domaine Gouges Henri

What analogy can be drawn from the names "Chaignots", "Pruliers", "Clos des Porrets Saint-Georges", or "Vaucrains" ? Firstly, one that illustrates some of the most famous names from the Nuiton vineyard. Secondly, one that embodies the Gouges domain, one of the most beautiful selections of Grand Cru from the Côte d’Or.

Here, man takes root in the soil like the ancient vines he produces. Once, it was Henri, then Michel and Marcel, today it is Pierre, Christian and their successor, Grégory : for nearly eighty years, the soil has soaked up the sweat of these enthusiasts on the fifteen hectares that make up the family domain. Since the beginning of the century, all the work in the Gouges family can be summarised in the maxim : "it is whilst still on the vine that a fine wine matures..."

And what wine ! In addition to the Burgundy vineyards and the Nuits Village , the family dance card boasts some of the most impressive crowned heads, some of the finest jewels from the Côte of fine wine...

Welcome to a demanding domain of excellence where the vineyards can find a youthful expression, with all that means in exuberance and fruitiness, but equally an age-old character, with a great wealth of nuances, strength and concentration...

In a few words, the realisation of an arduous task of yield management, selection, quality. Here, the fruit must draw the most from the earth, it must express the best of the plant. To be convinced just discover the wines of this domain...

Notes de dégustation

Robert Parker : 90-92 points
"The 2014 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru les Vaucrains, cropped at 26 hectoliters per hectare, was just a little loose-knit on the nose when I tasted it at the domaine, perhaps missing the cohesion of the Pruliers. The palate pulls things together with slightly savory red berry fruit, fine tannin and well judged acidity. There is a chalky note coming through on the finish and a spiciness that comes through on the aftertaste. Again, classic in style, at the moment the palate is leading the way and waiting for the nose to catch up."

Stephen Tanzer : 91-94 points
"Dark red-ruby. Tight, medicinal aromas of black cherry, bitter chocolate and menthol. Very rich and deep, with captivating sweetness cut by medicinal menthol and minerals. Highly concentrated, dense and broad but uncompromisingly dry. Finishes very long and perfumed, with serious saline tension. This very impressive premier cru has a big tannic structure and may well close down after the bottling."
