Description :

In the spirit of the domaine, the production of great wines begin with small yields in the vineyard. Expressive nose of red and blue pinot fruit and dried rose petal nuances that dissolve into rich, intense and mineral-inflected flavors of crystalline purity and wonderful cut and precision, all wrapped in an exceptionally fresh.

"Guillaume d’Angerville characterized 2007 as a vintage that had a "very early start to it. We had an exceptionally hot April with a good if not perfect flowering. The summer was frankly lousy and we lost most of the precociousness that April had given us. 100 days after the flowering would have put us around August 22nd but now that we are 100% biodynamic in our farming approach, we didn’t have the ripeness levels that we wanted in mid August. So, we waited.

Thankfully, just at the moment the weather turned calm and sunny if not hot with a perfect north wind that served to concentrate the grapes and dry up any potential rot. We finally began picking on the 5th of September with low levels of rot and between the rot and the under ripe berries, our sorting losses were no more than 5 to 6%, which is actually remarkably low given the inclement summer weather we had.

Yields were in the 28 to 29 hl/ha for the 1ers and we did a relatively normal vinification, which is to say 3 days of cool maceration followed by no punch downs and only pump overs, as has been our policy for many years.

As to the wines, they are completely classic in style with wonderful purity and while they are not powerful in the style of say 2005, they are very Volnay in character. We find the wines to be on the tender side and thus we have bottled most of them 4 to 6 weeks earlier than usual, all without filtration." The d’Angerville ’07s are flat out terrific wines, from the bottom to the top of the range and I highly recommend them to you. For those interested in value, both villages wines and the Burgundy wines offer plenty of bang for the buck. Moreover, the two ’06s I tried fulfilled all the promise that they displayed at this time last year. The roll that this domaine has been on continues unabated."

"The 2011 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs has an accomplished, sophisticated, mineral-driven bouquet that echoes the nascent 2012. The palate is crisp and a little leafy on the entry, something just slightly autumnal about it. The tannins are firm and just a touch austere, but they are neatly embroidered into the black fruit profile. The finish exerts a pleasant grip and it lingers long in the mouth. This is a classy wine hemmed in by an average growing season.
