Here the nose is a bit more expressive with a discreet application of wood spice highlighting the earth and underbrush-suffused ripe dark berry aromas that precede the rich, intense and downright massive full-bodied flavors that culminate in a linear and youthfully austere finish that goes on and on
![]() | Allen Meadows’s Burgendy reference : "For readers who may be unfamiliar with Domaine Tortochot, this approximately 11 ha domaine is now operated and managed by Chantal Tortochot-Michel. The wines are relatively old school in terms of style and structure though they do see plenty of wood at the grand cru level, which is to say 100%. Mme Tortochot told me that she was very happy with the way her 2005s had turned out and I have to agree wholeheartedly as I was quite impressed. It’s clear that quality is on the upswing here and this is a domaine worth following. Moreover, given the extremely reasonable prices the wines typically sell for, they are bargains, a descriptor one rarely hears uttered in the same breath with Côte de Nuits grand cru. " |
The Domaine Tortochot produces great burgundy wines Premiers Crus but also Grands Crus like The Chambertin, The Mazis-Chambertin, The Clos Vougeot or The Charmes-Chambertin. The better Premiers Crus are The Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux and The Lavaux Saint-Jacques.

"The 2013 Gevrey Chambertin Champerrier Vieilles Vignes, comes from vines planted by Félix Tortochot back in 1920. In 2013 it was cropped at less than 30 hectoliters per hectare. It has a well-defined bouquet with raspberry and crushed strawberry fruit, but is more closed than the les Corvées tasted alongside. The palate is medium-bodied, clean and pure with fine tannin, taut red berry fruit with a focused, harmonious finish that displays more elan than Tortochot’s other two Gevrey-Chambertins. This is one of my picks from Tortochot in 2013." (2014)
