Description of the Domaine Gouges Henri
Here the notably spicier and marginally more elegant red berry fruit and earth notes serve to gracefully introduce the sweet and discreetly spicy moderately full flavors that are firm and focused and admirably persistent while exhibiting ample Nuits character
"Medium red. Reticent but complex nose offers high-pitched scents of raspberry, licorice, bitter chocolate and minerals. At once dense and juicy, displaying a distinctly sappy character but also a refined texture to its intense raspberry, spice, mineral and soil flavors. This very classy wine mounts slowly on the suavely tannic, vibrant finish. Beautifully balanced already but there’s more to come with bottle age. From a crop level of just 26 hectoliters per hectare, according to Gregory Gouges, who noted that these 50-year-old vines always produce a light load of grapes. I’d love to taste this wine next to its 2015 sibling in about ten years."

"Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Saint-Georges comes across a little disjointed on the nose at first. The fruit is darker than its peers: blackberry, a touch of cassis and desiccated orange peel. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, the acidity here well judged and lending the finish impressive harmony and cohesion. I would have liked more sustain on the aftertaste, otherwise this is a fine Nuits-Saint-Georges from Henri Gouges. Tasted September 2017."
