Clos Saint-Jean is one of the historic climats of Chassagne-Montrachet. It lies mid-slope, south of the woods above the village, on clay-limestone soils. It once belonged to the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Jean-le-Grand, and before the year 1000 it was the source of Chassagne’s renown. Although the climat is best known for its whites, it also gives fine, fragrant Pinot Noir.
2024 was a cool vintage with small volumes in Burgundy, giving lighter, more easy-drinking reds. At just 12.5%, this red Chassagne should show bright red and black fruit, a palate between finesse and concentration, and supple tannins. Enjoy it young or keep it for 8 to 10 years.
