Les Damaudes is a rare lieu-dit in Vosne-Romanée, just above the Premier Cru Les Malconsorts, at 300 to 350 metres, on clay-limestone soils. This cool, high slope gives taut, fragrant wines. The Pinot Noir vines are over 30 years old (over 50 according to some sources). The grapes are fermented as whole clusters with native yeasts and very little punching down. The wine is aged for about a year in oak barrels, one third new, then a few months in stainless steel, and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
The wine shows a nose of blackcurrant and red fruit, with a spicy, floral touch from the whole clusters. The palate is racy and fruity, with velvety tannins and the freshness of the upper slope. This is an elegant, easy-drinking Vosne-Romanée that will keep for 6 to 15 years.
