Les Boucherottes is a premier cru in the south of the Beaune appellation, on the border with the Pommard 1er Cru of the same name, looking over Beaune and its Hospices. The vines, planted between 1966 and 1996 and Guyot-pruned, grow on slightly stony brown limestone soil in a warm, early-ripening sector. The grapes are hand-harvested and destemmed, given a few days of cold maceration, then fermented with regular punching down. The wine is aged for about 18 months in French oak, 35% new.
The 2023 has a deep garnet colour and a nose of blackcurrant, blackberry and cherry, with toasty, lightly spicy notes. The palate is full, with silky tannins and good freshness, and a long finish. This is a generous, velvety Beaune, enjoyable young but worth a few years in the cellar.
