Description of the Domaine Comte de Vogüe
Porlottes lieu-dit, with small parts of declassified premier crus Les Baudes and Les Fuées. Production is around 400 cases a year.
2018 was a hot, early vintage: harvest began on 30 August, with low yields (about 30 hl/ha) and alcohol between 13.5 and 14%. To keep freshness, the estate limited extraction and cooled its cellars. Black with a purple rim, the wine shows black cherry, ripe raspberry, blackcurrant and a floral touch on the nose. The medium-bodied palate is sleek and exceptionally concentrated, with saline tension and a hint of orange zest. The tannins are still firm and call for patience: this is a Chambolle for the cellar.

« A fresh if slightly jammy nose speaks of cassis, red and dark cherry and lovely spice wisps. The sleek but succulent medium-bodied flavors retain a lovely sense of underlying tension to the saline-inflected if decidedly firm finish that exhibits excellent length. This is definitely a structured and youthfully austere Chambolle villages that’s going to require at least some patience as it’s quite compact today. » (Janvier 2021)
