Montcuchot is a steep, stony premier cru where only a few centimetres of soil cover fossil-rich limestone. The vines are about 45 years old. The grapes are hand-harvested and gently pressed. The wine ferments with indigenous yeasts in French oak barrels, without settling, then ages for about a year in the same barrels before six months in tank.
The 2022 shows a nose of yellow flowers, quince compote, lemon zest and crushed stone, with a touch of cedar. The palate is rich and juicy, with astonishing density, citrus and white fruit, carried by chalky freshness. The finish is very long. When young, it benefits from being opened a little ahead of time or decanted.
