La Colombière is a lieu-dit in Vosne-Romanée, in the lower part of the village, east of the houses and close to the Grand Cru Romanée-Saint-Vivant. Its clay-limestone soils, mixed with fine stones and old gravel, are less rocky than those of neighbouring sites such as Clos du Château. As with the estate’s other reds, the Pinot Noir is fermented with a good share of stems, then aged for about 12 months in French oak barrels, with a moderate share of new oak.
The 2023 is an elegant, fragrant Vosne-Romanée, all finesse, with red fruit and a touch of sweet spice. The oak gives structure without weighing the wine down. Pierre Girardin compares his 2023 reds to the 2021s: firm structure and deeper aromas. Drink now after decanting, or keep for 8 to 12 years.
